A: Nursery sod is developed from a special blend of Kentucky Blue Grass seed developed for our climate, is fertilized to ensure proper growth when installed and protected from any weeds. Field sod is usually hay seed and contains various weeds. It will often fail to grow and become spotty or filled with weeds.

A: Yes, but it would take a lot. When you water, leave sprinklers on each area for at least 15 minutes. This should give you about an inch of water. Remember that water washes the nitrogen out of the lawn. If it rains a lot or you water a lot, use more fertilizer.

A: In early spring use a fertilizer with a high front number(nitrogen). This will give a quick boost to the lawn and make it a beautiful green. You should fertilize again in late June or early July if the weather conditions allow (do not fertilize if the weather is too hot), and again in late August. For these occasions a general duty fertilizer such as 6-12-12 is acceptable. Always fertilize just before a rainfall or water it in. If not the nitrogen will burn the grass and/or evaporate into the atmosphere.

A: Yes. Only a PH test will tell your exact soil conditions but as a general rule of thumb, apply lime every second fall. Lime takes time to break down so by applying it in the fall it is there for your spring growth.

A: The best method is to use a qualified, licensed and insured pesticide spraying company. These are professionals and when properly applied there is little danger from the chemicals.
